It’s the beginning of a New Year, so there’s a strong chance you are revisiting your fitness goals for the year. Maybe you did this last year… killed it the first couple weeks of January and then gave up. I’ve been there. But in 2018, for the first time EVER, I kept up with my fitness routine all year. Yep, I made it an entire 365 days without falling off the band wagon!
When I thought back on what changed this year, I realized this: I completely changed the way I thought about working out. Instead of focusing on how I looked or what I weighed or how much work I would need to put in, I focused more on the way it made me feel. After a workout, I would feel energized and less stressed. When I thought about an upcoming workout, I thought mostly about how great I would feel afterward. I then found myself looking forward to working out rather than dreading it. It has become this special “me” time that I truly enjoy–everybody needs that!
I am always so hard on myself, so I also gave myself a lot more grace if I didn’t have a good workout or was feeling tired. You don’t have to work out every single day. Do your best. But also you have to JUST DO IT! Every Monday morning, I look at the week ahead and figure out when and how I’m going to get in a few workouts. Maybe that’s just 20 minutes in the basement doing an app workout, but make it happen. Once you get going, it gets easier and more fun. Here’s to 2019 and keeping your commitments to yourself!
