Surprise Kansas City Chiefs Bedroom!

October 27, 2019 ·

This post is for my Kansas City people, or really anyone who has a little one who is a football fan. For my son’s 8th birthday, I had the wild idea to change his room over from his old super hero room (below) to an updated Kansas City Chiefs room… while he was watching the Chiefs game at a friend’s house!

Who doesn’t love a good surprise?!? And while it was a little busy and stressful trying to pull it off in a few hours, it was 100% worth it when I saw the shock and joy on his face when he walked into his new room.

I purchased the paint from Sherwin Williams during one of their 40% off sales. I did one red wall in the color “Show Stopper,” and the rest of his room I painted white in the color “Pure White”. It’s the most perfect KC Chiefs red, and the white balanced the intensity of the red wall.

One of the focal points of the room is the giant Patrick Mahomes Fathead. You can shop it, and the rest of the products I used to complete his room below. I countered the somewhat pricey Crate & Barrel football sheets with inexpensive comforters I purchased off Amazon. Most of my Chiefs branded items came right from Target.

Although it’s sad to see my son outgrowing the super hero stage, this was a really fun project and the perfect time to do it. If I was going to spend the money updating his room, I might as well lump it into his birthday to make it extra special. Given the transformation, I feel like I did a pretty good job of keeping it to a limited budget. My son could not have been happier, which is really all that matters!

The New Sears Home & Life in Overland Park

May 30, 2019 ·

I had a blast visiting the new Sears Home & Life store in Overland Park, KS. It’s the same trustworthy Sears that’s been around for over 100 years, but this store is updated and streamlined. The products are carefully curated so that it’s not such an overwhelming experience–when shopping for appliances or mattresses is almost always overwhelming.

I tested out the DreamLab, which uses technology to tell you exactly what kind of mattress will work best for your body and sleep style. The store has a ton of great mattress options, as well as pillows, and the customer service to help you decipher exactly what you need.

The appliance selection is just as great. There are many, many options from a variety of price points. Washing machines, ovens, refrigerators, dish washers and more! I am in the market for a new dishwasher and the sales associate was so helpful in educating me on the materials and sound level of the various models.

Probably my favorite section of the store was all the smart home/connected home products. I ended up purchasing two smart lightbulbs, which I can turn on and off (and change colors!!) all from my smart phone. This section of the store also had Ring doorbells and Nest thermostats–so much cool stuff!

The Grand Opening event was a ton of fun. They went above and beyond with food, music, giveaways and I even got a caricature drawing of myself. A couple of influencer friends also attended, and overall it was a great time!
